Pedro Torres (Brazil, 1982) focuses his artistic practice on issues related to the concepts of time, distance, memory, language, and image, using a variety of media in the development of his works and research projects. The diagram below shows these concepts and the materials used in his work. He is interested in working with these elements-coordinates in a combined and subjective way, where aesthetics and concept are balanced. The image, understood broadly, is always present as a mechanism, tool, and concept on which to structure and question certain axes, such as, for example, the relationship between the formation of memory and images, the image in relation to history (time, anachronism) and narrative (language) or the appropriate and decontextualised image. Scientific topics, theories and approaches are also very much present, as well as the need to explore different media and processes and to investigate in a methodological, intuitive, and poetic way. He has recently exhibited at Aragon Park II (Madrid), The Green Parrot (Barcelona), Casal Solleric (Palma de Mallorca), Centro Párraga (Murcia), Casa Seat / LOOP Barcelona 2020, Chiquita Room (Barcelona), Errant. Itinerarios de arte y pensamiento (Old Church of El Pont de Suert), Festival Poesia i + (Caldes d’Estrach), Fabra i Coats: Centre d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, OTR. espacio de arte (Madrid), Swab Barcelona, Dilalica (Barcelona), Bienal de Cuenca (Ecuador), ArtBo (Bogota, Colombia), CaixaForum Barcelona, BienalSUR (Casa Nacional del Bicentenario, Buenos Aires, Argentina), Festival Embarrat (Tárrega), NC-arte (Bogota, Colombia), ARCO Lisbon (Portugal), Travesía Cuatro Gallery and La Casa Encendida (Madrid), Luis Adelantado Gallery (Valencia), Mardin Biennial (Turkey), Bienal de las Fronteras (Mexico), Blueproject Foundation and Fundació Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona). His videos have been screened in different festivals in Europe, South America, and Asia. He has received awards and grants, such as PostBrossa (2021), the Exchange Grant art3/Homesession (2021), Ayudas a la Creación S.O.S ARTE/CULTURA from Vegap (2021), the “la Caixa” Foundation Production Call (2020).
