Shana Moulton’s performances, videos and installations introduce us to a world of prescription drugs, beauty treatments and spiritual healing through her character and alter ego Cynthia. Deliriums of personal improvement and self-healing find their manifestation in hyper-coloured video animations that blend the aesthetics of children’s programs and home shopping infomercials. Moulton introduces us to the melodrama and clichés surrounding personal enhancement and feminine wellbeing.
For this show, Moulton presents an installation made of an assemblage of objects and two moving image works that comprise ten years of her career: her first production Whispering pines 1 (2002, 1:55 min) and her most recent Every Angle is an Angel (2016, 7 min).
