Shana Moulton’s performances, videos and installations introduce us to a world of prescription drugs, beauty treatments and spiritual healing through her character and alter ego Cynthia. Deliriums of personal improvement and self-healing find their manifestation in hypercoloured video animations that blend together the aesthetics of children’s programs and home shopping infomercials. Moulton introduce us to the melodrama and clichés surrounding personal enhancement and feminine wellbeing.
For this show, Moulton is presenting an installation made an assemblage of objects and two moving image works that comprehend ten years of her career: her first production Whispering pines 1 (2002, 1:55 min) and most recent Every Angle is an Angel (2016, 7 min)
Shana Moulton was born in Yosemite, California, and graduated from Berkeley in Art and Anthropology. She has had solo exhibitions at the New Museum, SFMOMA, MoMA P.S.1, Performa 2009, The Kitchen, Electronic Arts Intermix, Art in General, The Andy Warhol Museum, Palais De Tokyo, The Migros Museum and Times Museum Guangzhou. She currently teaches at the Kunstakademie in Münster.
